Keep calm and swim on!!  I'm sure mermaids are a lot like the rest of us.  We go thru life thinking no one notices that we even exist.  But the proof is there and when you see the proof, its a little scary!  Humans have been voyeurs to the lives of mermaids for hundreds of years.  Just go thru your grocery store or coffee shop!  Sardine and tuna cans are not the only places to find mermaids selling wares for humans.  Soaps, Travel, lottery cards,...Sex, images of mermaids can be found everywhere!  I love to take road trips to find mermaids.  I look for statues, murals, anything where someone has taken the time to create a mermaid image.  you would be surprised how far away from the sea you can find a mermaid statue!!!  There are two fresh water mermaids, each with their own legend, near Austin and San Antonio Texas!  I even found one on a bathroom wall in Tyler Texas!  There is a Danish man who has a website called Mermaidsofearth.com.  He documents mermaids around the world so that others can find them!  We even have a mermaid fountain in my hometown of Pearland Texas! (Anyone who would like to "capture" her will find her on 518 in front of Killen's steak house!).  I have been trying to get him to put the Pearland mermaid on his website, but so far, he has been too busy to respond on that one.  he wasn't too busy to ask for more photos of the Indian mermaid in Salado Texas.

Miah is my youngest niece.  She is so helpful, smart, gracious and also knows her own mind.  I carved this stamp for her.  She is helping a baby manatee get away from a boat propeller.  It is unfortunate there are only eight of these prints.  I was testing this block and then washed it so that I could print the rest later that day.  One of my students saw it on the counter and for what ever reason, picked up the carving tool and started carving across the surface of the design.  For the life of me, I will never understand her motivation.  She wasn't holding a grudge and actually liked me...I think it was just a self centeredness that made her not even care that she was destroying something someone else had made.  I don't even know if she knew it was mine.  I think she just wanted to try out the tool and see how the rubber block felt when you carve on it.  I was so pissed! and I could do nothing about it because I couldn't prove she did it even though there were witnesses

what is your favorite food?

So the prompt was "what is your favorite food?"  Honestly, I chose bacon.  I don't really think that it is my favorite food but OMG, it can literally be put on anything to make that my favorite food!  Its not the most comely of items to eat.  Its brown.  It has been put on top of vegetables, more meat, salads, Ice Cream!!  and...one year, four of my students made me a dozen bacon roses.  They were DELICIOUS!!!  When cooked crispy, it is the perfect combination of crackle and chewiness.  the flavor is both savory and sweet.  I love bacon. Please do not get me bacon for my birthday because it is also bad for your body!

create some texture on your page

One of the techniques presented on Journal52.com was a texture technique. I wasn't thrilled with my page but I do like the process.  You brush on gesso...there are different thicknesses of gesso.  this one was the everyday thickness used to prime canvases.  You then press different objects into the gesso while it was wet.  I used different sized lids to create the circular patterns in the gesso.  I then let it dry.  I took a paper towel and wadded it up and brushed the blue paint over the surface.  I do like that the book page bleeds thru.  I used stamps of hot air balloons.  The prompt was "up up and away".  It was my first page...I learned the technique.
